Return of the Weaver Birds describes musically the breeding cycle of a pair of Weaver Birds that return every year to a specific tree in my Thai garden to raise their brood. It’s a song of 8 parts:

The Wait: Approaching the start of the wet season, many birds are returning from across Asia to Thailand to breed.

The Arrival: We hear the sounds of many birds as they call all searching for their mates. A dominant Weaver bird call can be heard signifying mates have met.

Courtship: A rhythmic sequence simulates the male and female weaver birds flitting about the garden in a courtship ritual.

Mating: There is a short, somewhat frenzied mating sequence. A riser takes us to the nest building.

Nest Building: Another rhythmic sequence emulates the frenetic activity of the birds weaving their nest from dried grasses that surround the waterhole next to our house.

Feeding: There is a complete change in sound, with a strong orchestral presence as the young birds hatch and require constant feeding

Fledging: The music builds to a crescendo builds to a crescendo with a strong, melodic synth lead melody. celebrating that the young birds have grown sufficiently to fledge the nest.

Gone: A second lead melody joins the first and the music subsides to the initial pad atmosphere. Breeding is done and they have left for their annual migration to other parts.
